The Fahrenheit Union of Universities in Gdańsk was appointed at the joint request of the rectors of the Medical University of Gdańsk, Gdańsk University of Technology and the University of Gdańsk. Senates of three universities adopted appropriate resolutions and approved the content of the Union's Statute, defining the scope of tasks, bodies and the method of managing this new organization.

The Fahrenheit Union of Universities in Gdańsk is based on strong, highly-specialised competencies of its members. The potential of the Fahrenheit Union is 44,000 students, nearly 4,000 research workers and teaching staff members, as well as 1,700 Ph.D. students.
